How to Measure
Vertical Blinds: (Premium & Commercial Vertical Blinds)
Step 1: Choose Your Mount Type
Vertical blinds can also be mounted inside the window frame or outside on the wall. Outside mounts are commonly used for sliding doors and large openings, while inside mounts offer a cleaner, recessed look.
Inside Mount Measurements
IM fit neatly within the window or door opening.
- Width: Measure across the top, middle, and bottom of the opening. Use the narrowest measurement, rounded to the nearest 1/8 inch.
- Height (Length): Measure from the top of the opening to the bottom at the left, center, and right.
- Use the shortest measurement, rounded to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Important: Do not make any deductions for width or height. All necessary adjustments are handled during production.
Outside Mount Measurements
OM are installed above and beyond the opening to ensure full coverage.
- Width: Measure the total area you want covered. For vertical blinds, we recommend extending the blind at least 3 inches on each side of the opening (6 inches total).
- Height (Length): Measure from where the headrail will be mounted to where you want the blinds to stop. For proper installation, the headrail should be mounted at least 3 inches above the window or door opening.
Important: No factory deductions are made for outside mount vertical blinds.
Additional Notes for Vertical Blinds
- Stacking options (left, right, center, or split) affect how the vanes collect when open but do not change measurement methods.
- Replacement vanes should be measured individually; order as “vanes only.”
- Corner or specialty installations may require custom deductions handled by the installer.
Final Measurement Tip
Always confirm your measurements before ordering. Correct measurements ensure proper fit, smooth operation, and professional results—especially for commercial or bulk orders.
Horizontal Blinds (Aluminum, Faux Wood, Wood, and Vinyl Blinds)
Step 1: Choose Your Mount Type
Horizontal blinds can be installed either inside the window frame for a clean, built-in look or outside the frame to maximize coverage and light control. Inside mounts require sufficient window depth, while outside mounts are ideal for shallow windows or when covering trim.
Inside Mount Measurements
IM fit within the window opening and provide a streamlined appearance.
- Width: Measure the width of the window opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Use the narrowest measurement, rounding to the nearest 1/8 inch. This ensures proper operation and clearance within the frame.
- Height (Length): Measure the height from top to bottom on the left, center, and right sides of the opening. Use the longest measurement, rounding to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Important: Do not make any deductions. Any necessary width allowances are made during manufacturing.
Outside Mount Measurements
OM are installed on the wall or molding surrounding the window and are ideal for greater light coverage.
- Width: Measure the total width you want the blind to cover. We recommend extending the blind at least ¾ inch on each side of the window opening (1½ inches total) for proper light control.
- Height (Length): Measure from where the top of the blind will be mounted down to where you want the blind to end. For best coverage, extend at least 1½ inches above and below the window opening. If a sill is present, measure to the top of the sill.
Important: No factory deductions are taken for outside mount blinds.
