Inside Mount vs. Outside Mount

Inside Mount vs. Outside Mount

Inside Mount

An inside mount sits within the window frame, giving a clean, recessed look. It works best when your window has a deep enough frame to accommodate the blind hardware. This is a popular choice for commercial spaces where a streamlined, built-in appearance is preferred.

Best for: Offices, classrooms, conference rooms, and any space where aesthetics matter.
Watch out for: Shallow window frames — if there isn’t enough depth, the blind will protrude awkwardly.

Outside Mount

An outside mount is installed above and beyond the window frame. This gives the appearance of a larger window, blocks more light around the edges, and works well for windows with shallow frames or where maximum light blockage is needed.

Best for: Apartments, dorm rooms, spaces needing full blackout coverage, and windows with irregular frames.
Watch out for: Make sure the mounting surface is solid and can support the hardware — particularly on larger commercial windows.

Which Should You Choose?

If your windows are deep enough and aesthetics are a priority, go inside mount. If light control and coverage are the main concern, outside mount is the safer bet. For multi-unit commercial installations, it’s worth standardizing one approach across the property for consistency.
